We are excited to be working with UNC-Wilmington Seaweed to bring another Without Limits tournament to the East Coast. Michelle and Seaweed have had an interesting history, with unfortunate circumstances causing Seaweed to drop out of several of Michelle’s tournaments, resulting in a somewhat strained relationship. After an email exchange about Philly Fusion in early Fall 2010, Michelle tried to do some early recruiting for Women’s College Centex and put a plug in for the tournament to Seaweed co-captain Claire Chastain. Talk turned to other spring tournaments and Claire told Michelle as an aside that she would love advice on Easterns. Michelle laughed a little at the idea and didn’t give it a second thought, but a month later, another email exchange about Centex led to another exchange about Easterns… and when Phoenix captain and UNC-Chapel Hill coach Lindsey Hack introduced Michelle to Seaweed superstar and former co-captain, Kelly Tidwell, that sealed the deal, capitalizing upon Michelle’s distinct inability to say no. An awkward video chat, including an entertaining discussion of spirit, some Facebook heckling, and the creation of the Seaweed Twitter account ensued… Claire even demanded that Michelle turn over her Spirit Award in recognition of Seaweed’s renewed commitment to good spirit. And now here we are, ready to rock the middle of March with the most competitive and awesome Easterns tournament yet.
